A master of the Zuni craft, Horace Iule (1901-1978) was a third-generation artisan and a master Zuni Pueblo silversmith who learned his craft from his father. A true influencer as a central figure in the evolution of 20th-century Native American jewelry, he is best known and celebrated for introducing the mythological Knifewing, a half-man, half-eagle spirit deity, into silver jewelry. He is also recognized for his exceptional sand-cast crosses set with turquoise or coral. Mr. Iule inspired a whole generation of Zuni-smiths, and their pieces are highly sought after by collectors.
