Vintage 1980s Dulce Taxco Sterling Silver Spray Demi-Parure
This demi-parure vintage Dulce Plateros Taxco sterling silver spray collar necklace and earrings is a piece of jewelry that is very hard to take your eyes off of. It's a mid-century modernist design of repetitive geometric stylized 'S' links ending in dual sphere accents. The Mesoamerican-inspired patterns are emphasized with textured, oxidized recessed areas. The matching earrings have a rectangular geometric top with spray links that dangle freely to match the necklace's movement. There is a variation in the markings, which is common; however, this is a marriage of two original period pieces. Most likely, they are a set in which components were stamped at different tables in the workshop. The necklace is hallmarked on one of the sprays as "Taxco Silver," and the earrings are hallmarked "Sterling" on the back. Also, it would be difficult to stamp Taxco Silver on such a small space on the earrings. Produced in the 1980s, this gorgeous set is a textbook example of Late Mexican Modernist jewelry. It's bold with strong architectural shapes and mimics the industrial-inspired lines of the movement. The collar necklace weighs 119g. The earrings weigh a total of 14g. This demi-parure is in excellent condition and without deep scratches. No kinks in the link, and they are tight; the patina is stunning.
Gemstone: William Spratling is fundamentally responsible for the existence, style, and geographic heritage of this set, even though it was indirect. He is responsible for the craftsmanship and the stylistic movement that evolved from it. Mexican Modernism at its finest.
