Vintage Fedoskino Hand-Painted Winter Landscape Mother of Pearl Brooch
This is such an extraordinary piece of historical jewelry from the Village of Fedoskino, the oldest center of Russian lacquer miniature painting. Based on the signature at the bottom, the brooch was painted in the early 90s. When the Soviet Union dissolved, independent artists achieved substantial creative freedom to produce and sell these miniatures. According to the hallmark, the surname of this specific Russian lacquer artist is Purov. This is such an interesting technique because of the materials used. The luminous glow under the river and sky is achieved by using a translucent multi-layer oil painting technique over a natural mother-of-pearl base. The iridescence, along with the masterful painting over it, will take your breath away. It's truly something to have in your collection of historical Russian decorative art. There are no cracks in the nacre (shell), no deep scratches, and a fully functional pin mechanism. Late Soviet to early post-Soviet transition era. A close-up photo of the signed painting and another close-up exhibiting the meticulous detail. 15g and approximately 2".
